J. Jerry Kaufman, CVS, FSAVE

The 40 years of Japanese VE History from a viewpoint of a VE expert well-versed in Japan

J. Jerry Kaufman is one of the most well-known VE consultants in the U.S. He has been playing a central role in the management of SAVE International since its foundation. He also maintained a close relation with the founder of Value Engineering, Lawrence D. Miles. He was former President of SAVE International. He has been deeply associated with SJVE since the foundation of the Society, thus many of Japanese Value practitioners were very much inspired by him.
Jerry is also known as one of the International VE professionals well-versed in Japan. In 1980 and again in 1999, he was awarded by SJVE for his contribution in establishing and supporting the Society and Japanese Value Engineers.
Jerry is President of J.J. Kaufman Associates, Inc., a company which provides design engineering, value engineering and corporate management services in the industrial, electronic, processes, services and aerospace markets through seminars, workshops, lectures, etc.
   

Eiken Itagaki, Politico-economic Columnist

Eiken Itagaki was born in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture in 1946. After having graduated from Chuo University in Law and the Officer Candidate School for Maritime Self-defense Force, he joined Mainichi Newspaper Co., Ltd. He was in charge of city news, politics and economics, and served as beat reporter for many of the past chief Cabinet secretaries of Japanese government. In 1985, he became independent politico-economic columnist. Based on his experiences as editor and reporter, he has been active in writing and lecturing and has written 108 books so far. The most recent works include: "Cheer up, corporate managers: Men's power and women's wisdom learned from Kazutoyo Yamanouchi" "Words of Carlos Ghosn" "Management learned from the Art of War from Furinkazan" "This is 'Ueda's Style' Innovation in the Prefectural Government Administration" "Sun's Square Law" "Change of Government - the last war of Ichiro Ozawa".
   

Masaharu Kawai, Prof. St. Joseph International University

Masaharu Kawai was born in 1944. He graduated in Applied Physics from Department of Science and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1967. In April of the same year, he joined Nikon Corporation as system engineer. He became engaged in the automation and streamlining using computer. In April 1990, he took office as a committee member of Japan Swimming Federation and belonged to its study group. He assisted to enhance the performance of many amateur Olympic swimmers such as Kyoko Iwasaki, Tomoko Hagiwara, Teiko Tajima and Kosuke Kitajima as an expert for analyzing swimming movement through computer. He was recognized as official swimming coach by Japan Olympic Committee. He established his own company Human Technology Inc. in 2005. He assumed the office as Professor of Engineering at St. Joseph International University in October 2006.
   

Kikunori Shinohara, Prof. Tokyo University of Science, Suwa

Brain Training for Value Engineers

Kikunori Shinohara was born in Chino, Nagano Prefecture in 1960. Having completed the doctor's course in health education from Tokyo University Graduate School, he is professor at the Common Education Center of Tokyo University of Science, Suwa. He is a young and energetic brain scientist and his scope of activities is not limited to brain system theory, health education or mental hygiene in which he is specialized but actively participates in many of the forums and experiments, appears on TV programs and magazines providing comments and information. He has written a number of books including "We are all over the place" "We are all hooked on something" "How to use your brain to get smarter and smarter" "60-second brain exercise preventing from being senile" "30 methods to make a concentrated brain" "Active brain training to improve your brain".
   

Kenji Aizawa, Chairman, Honda Cars CHUOKANAGAWA

How to enhance the job-site competitiveness and employee training

Kenji Aizawa was born in 1940. He graduated from St. Paul University in Sociology. After having worked for a food company and then Honda Motor Co., Ltd, he founded Honda Center Shonan Co., Ltd. in June 1969. The company name was changed to Honda Clio Shin Kanagawa in September 1993. The Honda Clio Group attained the number one in customer satisfaction survey for 8 consecutive years, which made the company well-known for providing a high quality service to its customers. The company received Japan Quality Award in 2004. In June 2005, Aizawa stepped down from President and became Chairman of the company. The company name again changed to Honda Cars CHUOKANAGAWA in September 2006. His book entitled "The fundamental strengths of Service" is on sale.
